TOM BAKER'S U.S. VISITS/APPEARANCES

1972: Nicholas & Alexandra publicity tour

1979: FIRST EVER DR. WHO CONVENTION IN THE UNITED STATES. [25 YEARS AGO THIS FALL]. THE DOCTOR WHO CONVENTION was held on Saturday, December 1, 1979, at the legendary Sunset Hyatt Hotel. It was produced by The Gallifreyan Irregulars. In addition to Tom Baker and Graham Williams, guests included Gerry Davis, Harlan Ellison and DW record producer Don Gallacher. The expected attendance of 300 ballooned to over 1,000 when news of Tom's arrival, with only 24 hours' notice, was released. The next day, an autograph signing was held at Malibu beach.*

*Footnoted Addenda: The SECOND EVER DR. WHO CONVENTION IN THE UNITED STATES -- "WHO I", in March of 1980. Guests included Lis Sladen and Ian Marter, and attendance over 3,000 was also held by this same group. BUT NO TOM. blechhhh!

November 19-20, 1983; Boston, MA; Doctor Who convention organized by
Creation Conventions and the Elder Corporation; attendance 3,000+

November 26-27, 1983; Chicago, IL; Spirit of Light (Norman
Rubinstein) "Ultimate Celebration" convention featuring 20+ Doctor
Who celebrities including Jon Pertwee, Patrick Troughton, Peter
Davison, Elisabeth Sladen and Nick Courtney; attendance 6,000+

February 11-12, 1984; Philadelphia, PA; Doctor Who convention
organized by Creation Conventions and the Elder Corporation;
attendance approx. 3,50. After this convention Tom flew to L.A. and
taped his "Remington Steele" episode, "Hounded Steele."

March 30-April 1, 1984; St. Louis, MO; the NADWAS annual convention,
"Panopticon West 1984"; attendance 2,500+

July 25-27, 1986; San Jose, CA; TIMECON SF convention; attendance 3,820

David Blaise ("The Friends of Doctor Who") at which Sophie Aldred
also appeared; attendance approx. 1,000

December 8, 1990; Long Island, NY; Tom Baker appearance organized by
David Blaise ("The Friends of Doctor Who"); attendance limited to 500
by the promoter

November 29-December 1, 1991; three-day "Visions '91" SF convention;
attendance approx. 1,200

December 16, 1998: The Brooke Bond Tea Company hired Tom to walk
around Boston on the 225th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party,
wearing an 18th century costume and offering free tea and an apology
for the British Tea Tax!

Tom also toured in 1990 with Sophie Aldred for the Maryland Public TV station's pledge drive,
and the March 17 Con. [See above note.]

Sophie played Ace, the assistant to the seventh Doctor, (Sylvester McCoy).
