Tom Baker reads a series of eerie tales.
The BBC2 series Late Night Story featured then Doctor Who (BBC, 1963-89; 1996; 2005-) star Tom Baker reading to camera four macabre stories on the theme of childhood, which were shown just prior to the channel's closedown. A fifth episode, 'Sredni Vashtar' by 'Saki' (Hector Hugh Munro), about a sickly young boy and his obsession with the titular ferret, was scheduled to start the series on 22 December, but went unscreened due to a BBC strike. The other stories were: 'The Photograph' (tx. 23/12/1978) by Nigel Kneale, 'The Emissary' (tx. 25/12/1978) by Ray Bradbury, 'Nursery Tea' (26/12/1978) by Mary Danby and 'The End of the Party' (28/12/1978) by Graham Greene.
